We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Lecturer in Journalism/Media to join the Department of Journalism, Publishing and Media in the School of Creative and Cultural Industries at Kingston School of Art.

This is a career-defining opportunity for a media professional to join a department that consists of a dynamic group of dedicated, experienced and energetic teachers and practitioners who inspire their students and help them to achieve successful careers in the content, journalism, media and communication industries. You’ll join a varied programme of practice-led teaching that seeks to bring professional practice into the classroom.

You will lead, plan, deliver and assess a range of modules on our undergraduate and postgraduate journalism and media programmes with practice at every level including content creation, news and features journalism, and audio, video and media production across different platforms. You will use a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a lively education to your students that can be translated into real-world skills.

You’ll share knowledge and expertise through professional practice, pursuing opportunities that can generate profitable income and support students with valuable work placements and entry-level jobs.

The Person

You will be an experienced media professional and/or journalist with a proven recent record of employment in an integrated newsroom, creative agency or media production company with experience of working across platforms. You will be up to date with changes in the media, journalism and content industries and will be interested in preparing graduates for working in these fast-evolving environments.

Expertise in digital journalism, news reporting, audio and video production, video reporting, podcasting, audience engagement (eg SEO and Social Media), and news production are desirable. You should be interested in working with students in the classroom to originate and produce real-life published outputs such as the campus newspaper and online news operation, associated multi-media and social media.

You may be new to teaching in higher education, and we welcome applicants who are transitioning from professional practice. You should be able to demonstrate some experience of teaching or mentoring or show a clear interest in developing this aspect. What matters most is your ability to apply your industry experience to real-world challenges and to support students in developing their own skills and knowledge.
