About the Job

The University of Northampton is seeking an inspirational Lecturer in Hair, Make Up and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen with an emphasis on student-focused teaching. You should have an extensive contact’s book having worked in the industry, and an enthusiasm to pass on your subject knowledge to students whether this be from a background of working in theatre, film, and/or TV. The successful applicant will teach some of the practical modules in purpose-built studio spaces based within the University’s Creative Hub on the Waterside Campus. You will be able to evidence how you can deploy specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in an innovative way to meet the demands of the sector, as well as providing proactive personal academic tuition. The successful applicant will be expected to help market the degree which may include occasional weekend and evening cover for recruitment events.

About You

You will be ICT literate and have an evidencable background in the SFX, Hair and Make-up industries and have the ability to produce and deliver a high-quality industry informed teaching and learning experience across the Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen field. A related first degree is essential and higher degree highly desirable.

Essential skills include the ability to work independently as well as collegiately and effectively within a team and you must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with learners and colleagues. The successful applicant will be able to use initiative to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines and have an adaptable, positive and proactive approach to supporting the general life of the course, school, faculty and wider University.

A track record of effective partnership working (internal and external), to develop entrepreneurial and employability opportunities in related Media, Hair, Make Up and SFX industry settings would be strongly advantageous. As an academic, you will also be expected to contribute to the research and scholarly output of the subject area and work collegiately with other researchers within the School, Faculty and wider University. Research and scholarship are supported through our research centres, mentor scheme, and 25 days of leave for scholarly activity.

Qualifications

Essential;

- Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject
- Professional Recognition as HEA Fellowship (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale

Desirable;

- Masters degree in relevant subject
- Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion (Senior Lecturer)
- Relevant professional qualification

You will join an innovative and collegiate team within the School of Culture and the Creative Industries (CCI), based in the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, with a strong emphasis on student-focused teaching and high impact research. The School of Culture and the Creative Industries contains a varied portfolio of traditional academic subject areas such as History and English, along with fellow creative industry courses in Acting, Music, Creative Film, Television and Digital Media Production and Multi-Media and Sports Journalism.
