Overview

Lecturer in English (Fixed Term Contract until December 2025) – Hull

Salary: £25,500 - £39,267 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Annual Leave: 42 days per annum FTE (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)

Responsibilities
  • Deliver teaching and learning across a range of qualification types, ensuring stretch, challenge, and engagement of learners.
  • Plan and prepare lessons and contribute to all relevant teaching documentation including schemes of work, lesson plans, online resources, etc.
  • Mark learners work, providing meaningful feedback on how improvements can be made.
  • Maintain accurate records and monitor learner attendance and progress, planning additional support when required.
  • Fully engage with the quality assurance processes within the curriculum area.
  • Attend team meetings and communicate with colleagues, sharing good practice within the curriculum area and the wider college when required.
  • Represent the college at parent evenings, taster days, open days, careers, and other educational events.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of subject specialism by engaging with appropriate professional development.
What we’re looking for
  • Minimum Level 3 or equivalent in English
  • Subject specialism in English
  • Previous experience of teaching English
  • Experience of working with a wide range of students
  • Demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with students of all ages in classroom, workshop and one to one situations, including students from Hull College School
