A prestigious university in Manchester is seeking a Lecturer in Early Modern History. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, focusing on material culture studies. This role offers the opportunity to shape the academic journey of students while contributing to the university's research output in early modern history.
The post will be available from 1 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Early Modern History (teaching-focused) at the University of Manchester. Candidates with interests in any area of early modern history (c.1450-1750) are encouraged to apply. Proven expertise in material culture studies is also expected.
The successful candidate must have a strong record of undergraduate teaching in early modern history, with a focus on material culture studies being desirable. A solid record of academic publication in this area, appropriate to the career stage, may also be advantageous.
The role involves contributing to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, especially introductory modules in early modern European and global history (e.g., HIST10302 Forging a New World: Europe c.1450-1750, HIST21241 Silk Roads: Eurasian Connections from the Mongols to Manila, 1200-1800). Responsibilities include delivering lectures and seminars, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, and acting as an academic advisor.
