Job summary

University of Hertfordshire is seeking an academic to teach TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, Blender and related software at the Hatfield campus. The role requires delivering a high-quality learning experience and maintaining up-to-date curricula in creative computing.

You will contribute to Createch development, collaborate with staff, and build external partnerships to enhance student opportunities and the programme objectives.

Job description

FTE: 1.0 FTE (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching Touchdesigner, Unreal Engine, Blender and other relevant software for interactive installations, responsive immersive work and projection mapping. to students on the Digital Arts and other programmes as required. You will have a broad understanding of the current technical, professional and commercial contexts for creative computing and of the ways practice is changing.

You will maintain a clear sense of the development of the ‘Createch’ area and ensure the curriculum and teaching remain up to date. You will further develop and strengthen external relationships and partnerships with studios and other media organisations that will benefit students and staff and support the strategic objectives of the University and School.

You will be expected to inspire and intellectually challenge our students, developing and delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience, and ensuring the successful and effective day to day running of modules. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues and the Programme Leader, in a collegial and proactive academic team, to provide an excellent student learning experience.

Skill and experience required

You will be a highly proficient user of Touchdesigner, Unreal Engine, Blender and other relevant software. You will have a High-level ability to code in one or more current programming languages (Python preferred) for a range of visual and interactive applications. Experience of AR and VR production would be an advantage.

You will have some experience of teaching at HE level but this may not be extensive. You must have Audio-visual presentation skills for use in teaching and the design of learning materials and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative and be proficient in English language.

Qualifications required

You must hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, in Computer Science or a closely releted field.

Educated with a postgraduatequalification,i.e.Mastersand/or PhD,(completed or close to completion) in a relevant fieldor equivalent would all be advantages as well as a HE Teaching qualification or Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the HEA)

An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
