Lecturer in Computing – Birmingham

Department: Academic/Bath Spa University partnership (BSU)

Location: Birmingham (On‑Site)

Salary: £51,000

Contract: Full‑Time, Permanent (40 hours per week)

The role

We are currently seeking lecturers to teach across a range of undergraduate levels as part of our BSc (Hons) Computing programme. Because of our delivery model, you should be able to teach during weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Visa: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

What you will be doing

As a Lecturer in Computing at Global Banking School, you will deliver modules based around the three main themes of the programme: Technology, Software and Data. You will develop and deliver comprehensive course materials and undertake all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment of students.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and assess student work, ensuring learning outcomes are met.
  • Develop, update and improve course materials as appropriate.
  • Use a variety of learning and teaching methods/materials.
  • Actively engage in staff development activities, peer observations, meetings and other administrative duties.
  • Keep up to date with latest developments in your field and student support practices.
  • Work towards defined objectives for student attendance, continuation, completion, satisfaction and progression.
About you
  • Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
  • Have previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject area.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of two or more of the following areas: programming and software development, web development, database systems, cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, IoT, emerging technologies, business IT systems, IT management, AI and machine learning, operating systems, UI/UX.
  • Have experience supervising student work and providing support and feedback.
  • Have experience in accurate reporting and maintaining thorough student records.
  • Work under pressure, plan and prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills.
  • Work with diverse groups of people.
Desirable
  • Hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
  • Have experience designing/developing academic or professional education programmes.
