Lecturer in Computing - Birmingham at GEDU Global Education

Details

Department: Academic/Bath Spa University partnership (BSU)

Location: Birmingham (On‑Site)

Salary: £51,000 per annum

Contract type: Full‑Time, Permanent (40 hours per week)

The role

We are currently seeking Lecturers to teach across a range of undergraduate levels as part of our BSc (Hons) Computing programme. Your teaching responsibilities will cover the three main themes: Technology, Software, and Data. You will develop and deliver comprehensive course materials covering database systems, internet technologies, data, cyber security, networking, and business information systems. You will also be responsible for all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment of students and keep up to date with the latest developments in your field and student support practices.

Responsibilities
  • All aspects of planning, delivering, and assessing student work, ensuring all learning outcomes are met.
  • Developing, updating, and improving course materials as appropriate.
  • Using a variety of learning and teaching methods/materials.
  • Actively engaging in staff development activities, peer observations, meetings and other administrative duties.
  • Keeping up to date with latest developments in your field and student support practices.
  • Working towards clearly defined objectives for student attendance, continuation, completion, satisfaction, and student progression.
Qualifications
  • Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area; PhD desirable.
  • Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject area.
  • Extensive knowledge of two or more of the following areas: programming and software development; web development; database systems; cloud computing; networking; cybersecurity; IoT and emerging technologies; business IT systems; IT management; AI and machine learning; operating systems; UI/UX.
  • Experience supervising student work and providing support and feedback.
  • Experience of accurate reporting and ability to maintain thorough and organized student records.
  • Ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritize own workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Desirable
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
  • Experience designing or developing academic or professional education programmes or equivalent.
