About the school

The School of Arts, Culture and Environment (SoACE) traces its distinguished history back to 1852 when the Cheltenham School of Art was established. You will be an enthusiastic and reflective lecturer who enjoys working closely with students, helping them develop as historians. You will recognise that excellent teaching and effective student support are central to the success of our programme and be able to create an engaging learning environment in which students are challenged, supported, and inspired. Above all, you will share our commitment to delivering an exceptional student experience and sustaining the department's reputation for teaching quality and student support. Our history degree is consistently highly rated by students. In the recent Times University League tables, the course ranked 7th for teaching satisfaction, and 10th for the student experience. Students benefit from small class sizes, close interaction with research-active staff, and a learning environment that encourages discussion, debate, and the critical analysis of historical sources.
