The Role

This is a career-defining opportunity in the Department of Applied and Human Sciences to inspire the next generation of Biological Scientists. We are seeking a highly motivated Lecturer to plan, deliver, and assess material across Levels 3–7, covering topics such as microbiology, biodiversity, evolutionary biology, medical parasitology, and food microbiology. You will deliver engaging lectures and practical lab sessions using advanced technologies to equip students with real-world skills. You will supervise undergraduate projects and research students, supporting their research journey. Additionally, you will be encouraged and supported to develop your research, produce high-quality outputs for publication, and contribute to our vibrant academic environment.

The Person

You should hold a doctorate in biological sciences with a specialization in microbiology and preferably possess a recognized teaching or learning qualification. You will be motivated to deliver outstanding teaching and support to students. You will draw on your experience in biological sciences to encourage integrated professional practice, providing practical knowledge that benefits students’ future skills. Continuously seeking improvement, you will review your work, seek to establish networks across private and public sectors, and collaborate to enhance the faculty’s reputation in higher education, research, and professional communities.

By the end of probation, you must achieve the relevant UKPSF recognition if not already obtained—either through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching programme for new lecturers or the Kingston Academic Practice Standards framework for experienced educators.
