Description

Are you passionate about the future of automotive engineering and keen to inspire the next generation of engineers? Coleg Sir Gâr is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Lecturer in Automotive Engineering to join our dynamic team at the Pibwrlwyd Campus.

Compensation: £25,372 - £46,431 / year

The Automotive Engineering provision is based at the Pibwrlywd campus although lecturers may occasionally be required to work at off-site venues, e.g., partner schools, commercial sites, and events. As a Lecturer in Automotive Engineering, you will deliver engaging and practical lessons across a range of qualifications, from Level 1 to Level 3, including apprenticeships. You will play a key role in developing learners' skills and knowledge in a hands-on environment, ensuring they are well-prepared for careers in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of the Curriculum Area on future developments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the teaching, assessment, and coordination of programmes of study leading to Entry Level 3, Levels 1, 2, and 3 in Automotive Engineering;
  2. Contribute to the teaching and development of other PT, schools provision, and commercial programmes, e.g., short courses;
  3. Undertake an assessor or internal verifier qualification within 3 years of appointment (if unqualified);
  4. Assume role of a Learning Area Programme Lead (LAP Leader) where required;
  5. Undertake assessment and verification duties;
  6. Contribute to the development of new courses and creation of a culture of innovation and commercial activities;
  7. Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 3 or equivalent in Automotive Engineering
  • Relevant Higher Academic/Vocational qualification in Automotive Engineering
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Relevant industrial experience in the Motor Vehicle Engineering sector
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Creative flair and innovative practical skills
  • Relevant ICT skills
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant teaching experience
  • An understanding of Hybrid and Electrical cars (training can be provided)
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
  • A current driving licence
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
