Job description

Merton College is seeking an experienced Electrical Installation Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching, learning, assessment, and tutorial support to students, with the aim of maximizing achievement and continuous improvement. The role involves supporting curriculum development, employer engagement, and learner skills development.

As a Course Leader and Academic Tutor, you will create and implement innovative teaching, learning, and assessment strategies, delivering activities such as lectures, coursework, practicals, and fieldwork for undergraduates and postgraduates.

Applicants should hold a teaching qualification (or be working towards one), be qualified to at least Level 3 in Electrical Installation, and have recent teaching experience in an FE College, school, or private provider. Experience teaching courses such as C&G 7202-01, 2365-02, 2365-03, 8202-30, EAL Electrotechnical and T levels is required. Knowledge of Green Skills technologies (Solar/PV, EV Chargers, Air Source Heat Pumps, Retrofit) and Electrical Inspection & Testing (2391/51, 2391/52, 18th Edition BS7671: 2018) is also desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of good-to-outstanding teaching, learning, assessment, and tracking, with a proven record of supporting learners. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, including providing assessment evidence for moderation, is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, both in group and individual settings.

This role requires a minimum of 2 evenings per week teaching part-time courses to adults. The salary includes a £10,000 uplift for candidates holding specific qualifications, such as a Level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical qualification, JIB registration as an Approved Electrician or Eng-Tech status via the IET, and a Level 3 assessor qualification (e.g., TAQA). The salary may also increase annually based on cost of living adjustments.

The benefits package includes 40 days of annual leave plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year, 5 days of Wellbeing leave, a contributory pension scheme (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities, professional development opportunities, and a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme.

The closing date for applications is 20th June 2025.
