About The Role
We are seeking to recruit an ambitious and energetic Lecturer to join our team and play a key role in delivering our highly successful BA(Hons) Illustration course on our Falmouth Campus.
The successful candidate will primarily work in our second year, delivering lectures, seminars, one-to-one tutorials, and workshops, where visual problem solving and professional practice are key principles. You should have a good understanding of the technical requirements of illustration, along with an up-to-date awareness of current trends, theories, and critical debates informing contemporary illustration.
As part of a team, you will work on collaborative projects, institutional-wide initiatives, and course continuous improvement. You will bring new ideas, challenge conventional thinking, create new initiatives, engage with new technologies, and be diverse in your approach.
With a rigorous academic underpinning, the course is designed to support the development of innovative visual problem solving and language, combined with professional practice, creating independent and curious students who are adaptable to change and industry-ready. As part of the School of Art teaching and learning team, this is a pivotal role to ensure the ongoing success of one of Falmouth’s flagship courses.
About You
The successful candidate will have proven experience teaching in higher education, with the ability to inspire students through innovative pedagogies, and bring specialist insight and professional expertise in Illustration. You should hold a Master’s degree in the subject area, and possess a PGCHE or equivalent and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), or be willing to work towards these qualifications.
You should have a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Illustration, good connections with industry and professional practice, and a demonstrable commitment to scholarship, research, and/or innovation. A strong portfolio as a creative practitioner or researcher in Illustration and a good network of professionals in the creative industries are also essential. You should be an outstanding educator, practitioner, and communicator, capable of working independently and as part of a team.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover position for up to 12 months, part-time, 28 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to start in early September 2025, with flexibility for a later start date. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 13 August 2025. Interviews will take place during the week commencing 1 September 2025.
