The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is seeking a motivated lecturer in Pharmacology Education. You will be responsible for maintaining the quality of teaching across the programmes to sustain and develop high quality education and learning. You will provide academic and pastoral support to students and work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and wider university.

About The Role

The post holder is responsible for delivering and enhancing the content of modules delivered by the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, eg. running modules and facilitating their delivery and contributing to the strategic vision of Pharmacology education within the Faculty’s School of Bioscience Education. In addition, there may be opportunity to deliver short term (6 weeks) Pharmacology teaching at our partner University in Shenzhen, China.

We encourage imaginative and interdisciplinary applicants with a solid teaching profile and a demonstration of innovative approaches in pedagogy. A contribution to pedagogical research and scholarship is expected. The post requires a skilled educator with experience of undergraduate education in the field of Pharmacology. It is on the Academic Education Pathway, with up to 20% FTE committed to education-focused research, with the responsibilities broadly defined as being: i) teaching and student support; ii) contribution to teaching and curriculum development; iii) scholarship, knowledge exchange and impact; iv) esteem and recognition. The successful candidate will have the potential to build a national/international profile in learning and teaching research.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria

  • First Degree or Masters in Pharmacology or related subject.
  • PhD in Pharmacology or a related subject.
  • Experience of delivering quality teaching and learning, at undergraduate level
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Proactive in creating and developing interactions and collaborations with colleagues with an ability to function within a team and to plan and prioritise workload.

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of research / scholarship in teaching and learning including evidence of developing new innovative teaching approaches.
  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Fellowship of HEA (Advance HE) or other teaching qualification
  • Experience of tissue based pharmacological assays
