The Role and the Department

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Durham University comprises eight academic departments: Anthropology, Archaeology, Education, Geography, Government and International Affairs, Law, Sociology, and Sport and Exercise Sciences. It fosters a diverse community and is responsible for interdisciplinary programmes, including Combined Social Sciences and Research Methods, with plans to expand postgraduate offerings. The faculty provides an inspiring research environment and a stimulating work setting for staff.

We are seeking to appoint 2 FTE Learning and Teaching Administrators who will be flexibly deployed across the departments to match resource and student needs. Initially, both roles will be based in the Law and Sociology departments.

The Learning and Teaching Administrator will support various education-related processes, playing a key role in the annual delivery cycle. Responsibilities include monitoring student engagement, managing assessment processes, timetabling, and handling student queries. The role requires independent work, decision-making, and problem-solving, with a focus on effective teamwork and adherence to university policies. A commitment to customer service excellence is essential.
