To assist in the management and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN).

A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children either within a department or within a mainstream class. They may work alongside and with specific guidance from any teacher within a school. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme, which all staff working with the child/young person follow. This may involve collaborating with professionals and therapists such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Child Psychologists.

Sound Primary School is a non-denominational school located in the Sound area of Lerwick, providing education from nursery to Primary 7. The school currently has 1 nursery session per day and 11 primary classes. Staff includes 22 teachers (including Class teachers, Nursery teachers, Support for Learning Teachers, and Specialist Teachers), as well as nursery staff, clerical staff, support staff, supervisors, auxiliaries, crossing patrol assistants, and a janitor. The school is managed by a Head Teacher, Mrs. Ann-Marie Angus, and two Depute Head Teachers.   • The grade of this post is F/G.
  • Please note that this job is not Career Graded. A successful candidate will be employed as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Worker. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed to determine if they meet the person specification criteria for the qualified or unqualified role. This will influence the salary/rate of pay and the duties expected. The Job Profile documents at the end of this advert describe both roles in more detail.
  • The rate of pay shown includes a Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour.
  • This is a permanent part-time position, 27.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, plus 6.24 weeks (pro-rata) paid holiday during school holidays.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo an update prior to a formal employment offer.
  • This vacancy does not meet UK visa sponsorship rules. Please only apply if you do not require UK visa sponsorship.
  • No relocation package is available for this post.
