A leading council is seeking a Learning Support Worker to assist children with additional support needs at Happyhansel Primary School. This part-time position involves collaboration with teachers and various professionals to ensure effective educational support. The role requires membership in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme and registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.
To support the care, welfare, and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines.
A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children within a department, mainstream class, or early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. They may work alongside or under specific guidance from any teacher within a school. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme (IEP), which all staff working with the child/young person follow. This may involve collaboration with other professionals and therapists such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, and members of the Educational Outreach Service.

Located in Walls, Happyhansel Primary School is a non-denominational school providing nursery to P7 education for children from Walls, West Burrafirth, and as far east as West Houlland. The school comprises 1 nursery class and 2 composite primary classes, with a total of 36 pupils. Managed by Head Teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Garrick (joint with Sandness), the staff includes 3 teachers supported by additional support staff as needed.
