A leading council is seeking a part-time Learning Support Worker to assist children with additional support needs at Aith Junior High School. The role involves promoting inclusion, supporting educational needs, and working collaboratively with teachers and professionals. Candidates must be willing to join the PVG Scheme and have a passion for supporting children's welfare.
To support the care, welfare, and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines.
A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children within a department, mainstream class, or early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. They may work alongside or with specific guidance from any teacher within a school. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme (IEP), followed by all staff working with the child/young person, and may involve collaboration with professionals and therapists such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, and members of the Educational Outreach Service.
Aith Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Aith on the west side of Shetland. The school comprises a nursery class, five composite primary classes, and a secondary department from S1-S4, with a total of 241 pupils. The current Head Teacher is Mr. Michael Spence.
