You will be responsible for identifying individual requirements and for creating a safe and supportive environment that enables pupils to succeed in their learning. Much of the teaching will involve supporting pupils with literacy and numeracy difficulties. You may also work with pupils who have physical or sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties or behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching either individuals or small groups of pupils within or outside the class
- Preparing lessons and resources alongside marking and assessing work
- Developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
- Using special equipment and facilities, such as audio-visual materials and technology to stimulate interest in learning
- Assessing pupils who have long or short term learning difficulties and working with colleagues to identify individual pupil needs
- Liaising with external professionals and agencies as required
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A recognised qualification in SEN/Learning Support (Level 5 Diploma in Specialist Teaching for Literacy Related Difficulties or similar) and a demonstrable commitment to related CPD
- GCSEs or equivalent in English, Maths, and Science at grade 4 or above
- Experience of learning support teaching, including one to one and small group provision
- Evidence of lively, flexible and focused teaching
- A positive and consistent approach to behaviour management
- Ability to communicate well with parents, colleagues and pupils
