A local primary school in Oldbury is looking for a dedicated Level 3 Learning Support Practitioner to support children's learning and development, particularly in Early Years. The role involves working closely with teachers and staff to provide individual support and adapt teaching approaches for all learners. The ideal candidate holds a Level 3 qualification in early years education, has experience with Special Educational Needs, and demonstrates strong communication skills. This position offers a part-time contract with 13 hours per week during term time.

We are seeking a Level 3 Learning Support Practitioner (LSP) to join our friendly, dedicated and hardworking team. This role is based in Reception, but flexibility is essential as you may be required to support in different year groups across the school when needed. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and other staff to support children's learning and development, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability.
The Role:
As a Level 3 LSP, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning, well-being, and development of our pupils. The roles require a good knowledge of current practices, including phonics, (RWI desirable) a positive approach, a willingness to learn and a desire to be part of an effective team. While initially working in Early Years, the ability to be flexible and adaptable to different age groups and learning environments is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support children’s learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and whole-school expectations.
• Provide individual and small-group support, adapting teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.
• Confident to work with groups of children covering all aspects of the 7 areas of learning within the EYFS framework.
• Support the teaching of phonics, particularly using the Read Write Inc. (RWI) scheme, to develop children’s early reading and writing skills.
• Flexibly support across different year groups when needed to ensure consistency and continuity of care and learning.
• Be prepared to take charge of a group or class in an emergency situation under the direction and control of the Head Teacher, or other designated member of staff, for a period not greater that one working day.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team, maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
• Have a proven record of working in partnership with class teachers which has resulted in good attainment and progress for children
• Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment, ensuring children’s well-being and safety at all times.
• Support personal care, social development, emotional regulation, and administering first aid as required, particularly for younger pupils or those with additional needs.
• Observe, assess, and record pupils’ progress, contributing to planning and delivering tailored support strategies.
• Encourage positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
• Assist in setting up, preparing, and organising resources for activities.
• Provide support for children during transitions, lunchtimes, and outdoor learning.
• Be an effective practitioner with the ability and desire to improve their practice
• Have high expectations of yourself and others
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Be highly organised, motivated and flexible with the ability to inspire and challenge children
• Be able to promote the vision and values of the school, demonstrating high professional standards.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will:
• Hold a Level 3 qualification eg CACHE, BTEC, NNEB (in early years education and childcare)
• Have a good level of literacy and numeracy skills
• Have substantial experience working with children in Early Years
• Have knowledge and experience of delivering phonics, particularly using the Read Write Inc. (RWI) scheme.
• Be flexible and willing to work across different year groups if required.
• Have experience supporting children with SEND and an understanding of inclusive teaching strategies.
• Be a team player, able to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
• Be caring, patient, and enthusiastic, with a strong commitment to supporting children’s well-being and development.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building strong relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.
• Hold a paediatric first aid qualification or be willing to undertake training (desirable).
• Be proactive, adaptable, and able to use their initiative in a busy school environment.
