Job summary

A local governing body in Brynmenyn is looking for a temporary Learning Support Officer to provide vital support to primary pupils. The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, along with a commitment to professional development. The successful candidate should have at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and the ability to greet customers in Welsh. The position is part-time, lasting until August 2026.

Job description

Learning Support Officer - Brynmenyn Primary (Temporary)

30 hours per week, Term Time, Temporary up to 31 August 2026 with an expected start date of November 2025.

The Governors of Brynmenyn Primary School wish to appoint an enthusiastic, caring and conscientious learning support officer to work in a highly motivated, friendly teaching team.

The successful candidate will provide essential support to pupils and be able to demonstrate this across the primary phase. They should also:

  • Be able to work in close partnership with teaching and other support staff.
  • Have a good knowledge of primary practice in order to contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Have a good understanding of additional learning needs and promote inclusion.
  • Have experience in delivering intervention work for pupils.
  • Be highly motivated and able to work on their own initiative.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Work alongside staff to champion an area of the curriculum.
  • Be dedicated to their own professional development and school improvement.
  • Be able to make a positive contribution to the wider life of school.
  • Be prepared to undertake break and lunch duties.

You will be qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or have good experience of working with children in a school environment.

The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.

Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.

An Enhanced with Children's Barred list criminal records check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this post.
