Job description

Learning Support Assistant / LSA with experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team is required for a well-established Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.

RECENT GRADUATES CONSIDERED

SALARY: £24,027 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £16,708 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, term time only (39 weeks).

START DATES: 2 Positions Available – One to start ASAP and the other in September 2025

JOB OVERVIEW

Due to expansion, we have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant / LSA with experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.

The role involves working within the whole class, teaching small groups, and on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils. You will help students participate in social and academic activities, fostering independence and boosting achievements.

DUTIES
  • Implement lesson plans, manage pupil behaviour, and assess pupil progress in conjunction with the teacher.
  • Work with individual or groups of children, ensuring they stay on task and complete activities.
  • Address behavioral and special needs issues collaboratively with the teacher.
  • Assist with testing and assessments.
  • Review progress against learning programmes.
  • Be flexible to meet the school's needs, supporting children 1:1 or providing class support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and build trust with pupils and teachers.
  • Adhere to safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Provide lunchtime supervision and organize play activities.
  • Administer first aid when necessary, following the advice of the registered first-aider.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • A child-centred approach.
  • Ability to create a supportive structure for children with SEND.
  • Experience working in Early Years, KS1, or KS2 settings.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to fixed timetables.
  • Experience supporting children with social/communication difficulties in small groups.
