SALARY: £25,185 - £25,989 per annum Actual (NJC Points 4-6)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant who is a team player, with the ability to use initiative and be adaptable and flexible in their approach to work, with excellent interpersonal, communication and IT skills.

Swalcliffe Park School provides specialist residential education and care for around 70 secondary aged boys (10-19 yrs) all of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. We offer excellent working conditions in a beautiful environment, including paid school holidays, opportunities for career development and staff training.

We are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and professional Learning Support Assistant to join our established team. Duties include supporting Key Stage 3 and/or 4 students in a range of learning situations both in school and within the community.

Working as a Learning Support Assistant you will uphold the vision, holistic ethos and policies of the school and work in compliance with the school s Quality of Life Framework. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to help ensure that the school maintains an Outstanding Ofsted judgement for the quality of education and care provided for all students.

DUTIES

Some of your duties as a Learning Support Assistant in a Key Stage Education Team (KS3 and/or 4) will include:

  • Working effectively with groups and individual students within the classroom
  • Supporting students with homework and assignments outside the classroom
  • Supporting students with revision and access arrangements for exams
  • Observing behaviour and learning styles of individual students to inform target setting
  • Supporting them in a variety of learning activities to enhance their opportunities for independence and social inclusion, either onsite or in the community
  • Supporting the implementation of specific student interventions devised by teachers, therapists or the Literacy Coordinator
  • Fulfilling the role of key worker for nominated student, as well as participating in the duty and cover rota at breaks and lunchtimes
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety requirements of the Education Team ensuring risk assessments and safe methods of working are appropriately utilised
  • Applying the policies, procedures and practice for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children are implemented effectively within SPS Education Team, along with relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures
  • Working in partnership with children and their families in partnership with other professionals to enable change to build resilience in families
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As a Learning Support Assistant you will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Minimum of GCSE Level education, including Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (formerly C) or above or equivalent (essential)
  • Experience of working within either an educational setting or youth and community work environment (essential)
  • Experience of providing classroom support in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects (desirable)
  • Experience of working with students with ASC (desirable)
  • Being proficient IT skills in database, word processing, PowerPoint, and email. SPS uses Microsoft Office applications (essential)
  • Having excellent interpersonal and communication skills effective in a variety of settings and range of people (essential)
  • A full driving licence and be eligible and be willing to drive a school vehicle to transport students to community-based activities (essential)
