Job description

Start Date: September 2025

Term Time Only: 32 weeks plus some additional days for Inset

Hours of Work: 8am-4pm Monday to Friday

A well-regarded independent preparatory school in Gerrards Cross is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join from September 2025. This full-time, term-time role offers the chance to support pupils aged 9–13 in a nurturing and well-resourced setting.

The post focuses on supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (ASD, ADHD, and others) and English as an Additional Language. This includes one-to-one and classroom-based support across core subjects—especially Maths and English—encouraging confidence, independence, and academic growth.

Reporting to the Head of Learning Support, the successful candidate will work closely with SEN and EAL specialists to implement tailored strategies that help pupils thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide academic and pastoral support to pupils with SEN and/or EAL needs
  2. Assist with the planning and delivery of structured learning activities
  3. Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to reports and updates
  4. Support behaviour management and pupil engagement
  5. Use ICT effectively to enhance learning and communication
  6. Participate in school trips, supervision duties, and extracurricular activities
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  1. A Level 3 Learning Support or SEN qualification
  2. Experience supporting children aged 7–13
  3. A strong understanding of child development and learning needs
  4. Excellent communication, organisation, and teamworking skills
  5. A calm, professional, and flexible approach with a commitment to safeguarding
Desirable:
  1. Experience supporting pupils with EAL needs
  2. Familiarity with independent school environments
  3. First Aid training or a teaching qualification
