Job description

Learning Support Assistant

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £19,970 to £26,736 (pro rata to term time hours - FTE £25,328-£33,910). The actual salary will be based on experience.

Hours: 37.5 hours a week term time only. 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday, with a half hour unpaid lunch break.

The Role

The Perse Prep School is seeking to appoint a high calibre Learning Support Assistant (LSA) who will support children in school so that they have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. They work closely with staff and parents to ensure that children's needs are identified and met as they progress through the school. The Learning Support Department aims to offer a secure, and relaxed learning environment to promote pupil confidence, self-esteem and independent learning.

Learning Support lessons are usually on a one-to-one basis but this can occasionally be with pairs or supporting in class. The role will involve preparing and delivering sessions as well as administrative tasks relating to learning support.

In addition to this support within the timetable, the LSA will be expected to run small support groups at certain times of the day, including form time and lunchtime.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential (entry level)

* GCSE qualifications at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.

* Clear and effective communications skills, both verbal and written, with a confident and positive manner. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.

* Confidence to support children up to and beyond the end of Key Stage 2.

* Empathy for pupils, staff and the school community.

* The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and also independently.

* The ability to work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues within school, specialist advisors out of school and with parents.

* The ability to manage commitments and deadlines.

* ICT competence.

* Commitment to continuing personal and professional development.

* A 'can do' attitude and the adaptability needed to work in effectively in a Prep school environment.

Desirable (higher entry level or progression)

* A relevant higher level qualification or vocational training, which can be practically applied to supporting pupil development, for example appropriate qualifications at A level (or higher).

* Ability to contribute to the School's Clubs and Sports programme.
