Job summary

St Michael's Catholic School is seeking a dedicated support colleague to assist in planning, preparing and delivering classroom activities. You will work with individuals or groups of pupils, adapt materials, and support their learning and development under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo.

You will contribute to safety and wellbeing, participate in meetings, and help foster positive relationships between home and school, while upholding confidentiality and school values.

Responsibilities

• Discuss and contribute to the teacher's programme/plan for lesson/day/week/term.
• Adapt differentiated materials to enable children to access the curriculum.
• Assist with planning, organising and supervising educational visits and outings.
• Prepare classroom and associated areas for use, including materials and equipment.
• Clean and store materials and set out equipment after use, tidy classrooms.
• Create and maintain work sheets, cards, books and display materials.
• Assist individuals or groups on reading, writing, practical, creative, physical, recreational activities and environmental studies.
• Develop understanding of pupils' specific needs and vulnerable groups.
• Aid pupils to learn effectively in group and individual settings.
• Help children develop independent learning skills and constructive play.
• Guide children's social behaviour, attitudes, self-esteem and skills.
• Collaborate with SENDCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator to develop and implement support programmes.
• Provide feedback on pupils' progress to teachers and SENDCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator.
• Participate in evaluation of support programmes with teachers and SENDCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator.
• Support supervision of children during assemblies, play times, meals, outings and other activities.
• Administer basic first aid, report injuries and manage medications following policy.
• Ensure Health and Safety regulations are followed at all times.
• Liaise with staff and multi-professional services; contribute to EHCP/ SEND meetings.
• Foster links between home and school; participate in staff training and appraisal activities.
• Commit to school life and confidentiality; promote a positive image of the school to parents and community.
