This role is Monday – Friday between the hours of 08:30 – 15:30

About your role

As a LSA, you will be supporting individuals with complex needs such as Autism, Learning Disabilities, challenging behaviours, physical disabilities, and Mental Health conditions.

Role Responsibilities

  • To promote the safeguarding of students at all times.
  • To provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities and resources across the educational day, showing flexibility and differentiation to effectively meet students’ needs.
  • To have knowledge of each student’s targets within their EHCP/IDP and provide the support needed for students to achieve their goals.
  • To support all students in attending sessions and maintaining engagement throughout.
  • To manage and maintain student files to a high standard, ensuring all information is accurate and up to date.
  • To support and contribute to the college’s total communication approach.
  • To role model active support and to support Residential staff in strategies and best practice methods of supporting student needs. This is in relation to supporting within the classroom or outside learning tasks. Support and guide other less experienced staff where needed.
  • To provide and maintain high quality displays, ensuring the College is a vibrant environment which celebrates the students’ achievements and diversity.
  • To assist the lecturer to prepare the learning environment and maintain it to a good standard. Ensuring the classroom is ready for learning and tidy at the end of the College Day.
  • To organise and deliver activities/clubs in student break and lunchtimes.
  • To ensure students have appropriate access to independent learning opportunities both within the college environment and through more inclusive community contexts.
  • To maintain effective partnerships with parent/carers to promote students’ learning and to assist the lecturer in providing information to parents about targets, achievements and progress.
  • To offer a high level of personal care to students, that respects their privacy and is appropriate to their culture, age and gender and assist in training other staff to the same standard.
  • To attend staff meetings and training activities/ workshops as required.
  • To cover for lecturers planned absence when, for example, attending Reviews, MDT meetings and training.
  • To cover for short term sickness absence as required, planning and preparing and evaluating sessions as necessary.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of offsite activities and organised trips. Staff may be required to support students in groups or individually in accordance with the College risk assessments. Where applicable, staff may also be required to drive the College vehicles to provide transport.

  • Able to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with students and staff.
  • Ability and willingness to work constructively as part of a team.
  • Ability to organise the classroom activities e.g. preparing and setting out resources and implementing strategies for teaching and learning.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to help students to transfer their learning to other parts of their lives.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work flexibly.
  • Willingness to attend training sessions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in working relationships with students and in forming effective professional relationships with all involved with the student.
