Job Description:

Learning Support Assistant – Teaching Assistant – SEN – Addlestone

This is a fantastic opportunity for a psychology graduate interested in working with neurodiverse children and young people.

The school, based in Addlestone, Surrey, supports secondary-aged pupils with a range of learning and behavioural needs. All students have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) outlining their specific care and support requirements. The needs of the students are generally mild compared to other special schools in the area.

The school offers a specialist environment tailored to the students' needs, including a therapeutic curriculum covering all secondary subjects. Some students will pursue GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications, so supporting their understanding of key subjects like maths and English is essential to help them access further education or training.

Summary:

  • Specialist secondary school for students with diverse learning needs such as autism, Down’s syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social-emotional needs. The school also supports deaf students.
  • Classes of 6-8 students focusing on effective communication techniques.
  • Therapy rooms and dedicated areas for support from SALTs, occupational therapists, psychologists, and counselors.
  • An integrated therapeutic approach with extensive 1-1 support for each pupil.
  • Use of specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.
  • Focus on preparing students for GCSEs and building a tailored curriculum.
  • Ideal for LSAs interested in pursuing a career as a speech and language therapist.
  • A psychology degree or specialist SEN training is highly desirable.

Interested candidates can apply directly through this advert or contact Ben Mason at 01483 362393 for more information.
