Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate Learning Support Assistant for an Alternative Provision in York starting September 2025. The role involves supporting students with diverse special educational needs, working alongside teachers, and providing emotional and social support. Candidates should have relevant qualifications and experience with SEN.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection is required.
• Must hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one.

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Learning Support Assistant to work at an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2025.

• Supporting students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
• Work closely with teachers to support the learning and development of students with SEN.
• Provide 1:1 and small group support, focusing on individual learning goals and progress.
• Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence and resilience in a higher education setting.
• Assist in delivering tailored interventions and classroom activities.
• Support students’ personal care needs when required, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
• Relevant qualifications in Education, Teaching and Learning, Psychology, Social work, or a related field is essential.
• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
• A solid understanding of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
• Knowledge of strategies to support SEN learners
• Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help overcome students’ barriers.
• Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
