Job description

Support students with additional learning needs and/or disabilities to ensure they can access their study programme, working effectively and confidently on a one-to-one basis or with small groups. Promote social development through activities, clubs, and events in social areas and the wider college, providing opportunities for social interaction and good communication, and encouraging participation in small group activities.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

The following outlines the main priorities as directed by your line manager; it is not an exhaustive list of duties:

  1. Provide timely support for students with learning difficulties/disabilities in a structured environment, supervising and monitoring students, ensuring documentation is completed for college and audit requirements.
  2. Work effectively with students on a one-to-one or small group basis, including accompanying students on external visits.
  3. Promote social development through activities and events, planning programmes to engage students, and encouraging social interaction and communication.
  4. Develop informal opportunities for citizenship and employability education, promoting respect for the environment and positive behaviour.
  5. Signpost students to support services and attend supervision meetings with relevant staff.
  6. Set SMART targets for students' PLPs to support improvement and review them timely.
  7. Coordinate with curriculum lecturers to plan and implement support, including access to schemes of work and lesson plans, with appropriate differentiation.
  8. Prepare and maintain resources and facilities to assist students with disabilities/difficulties.
  9. Attend staff development activities, meetings, and focus days to develop relevant skills.

All post holders must be trained as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
