A special school in Bordon is searching for a proactive Learning Support Assistant to support children with Complex SEN and Learning Difficulties. GSL Education are in the process of finding experienced Learning Support Assistants to work with children who have Complex SEN and Multiple Learning Difficulties at a special school in Bordon.

We are keen to hear from applicants who have previously worked in SEN schools, or from applicants who have a background supporting Complex SEN in care. From these experiences, you will have gained transferable skills that will help you in this role - medication administration, manual handling including use of hoists, feeding, personal care and challenging behaviour may be encountered in this position. Previous experience in all of these areas is not necessary as the school have a great team of trained staff who can support you throughout the day, but showing proactiveness and engagement when facing these new situations and a willingness to learn is essential.

About the Academy:

The school supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with complex learning needs, providing a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. They have a dedicated team of highly trained staff who work closely with each child’s strengths, setting high but achievable expectations. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and benefit from a collaborative approach involving therapists, medical professionals, and specialist teachers. A range of on-site therapies, including speech and language, occupational, and physiotherapy, is available to support pupils' individual needs. Personal development—spiritual, moral, social, and cultural—is central to their ethos, helping students gain independence and prepare for adult life. A full-time nurse is also based on site to support pupil well-being.

What you’ll need to be a Learning Support Assistant:

  • Strong communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, or other additional needs (or a strong desire to learn).
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/Level 4 or above
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable but not essential – full training and support will be provided!
