Learning Support Assistant – ASD Support (Mainstream Primary School)
Location: Waltham Forest
Salary: £95- per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: September

About the Role

Connex Education is working on behalf of a large and inclusive mainstream primary school in Waltham Forest to recruit a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the classroom. This full-time role is to begin in September and is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs in a mainstream setting.

The school promotes a nurturing and aspirational learning environment where all pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential. As an LSA, you will play a key role in providing 1:1 and small group support to children with ASD, helping them to access the curriculum, regulate emotions, and develop key social and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and in-class support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Help pupils access learning tasks by using visual supports, routines, and tailored strategies
  • Encourage social interaction and support emotional regulation
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement EHCP targets
  • Monitor progress and contribute to daily observations and reports
  • Promote inclusion and help pupils engage confidently in all aspects of school life
  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday
  • Working hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Long-term role with the potential to continue for the full academic year

Person Specification

  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD in a school or similar setting (essential)
  • Understanding of inclusive classroom practices and communication strategies
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour and learning support
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • A current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Connex
