Job description

Location: Cambridge

Salary: A GBP 19,970 to A GBP 26,736 (pro rata to term time hours: FTE A GBP 25,328 to A GBP 33,910). The actual salary will be based on experience.

Hours: 37.5 hours a week, term time only. 8.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, with a half-hour unpaid lunch break.

The Role

The Perse Prep School seeks a high-calibre Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support children in school, enabling them to achieve their full potential. The LSA will work closely with staff and parents to identify and meet children's needs as they progress through the school. The department aims to provide a secure, relaxed learning environment to promote confidence, self-esteem, and independent learning.

Learning support sessions are typically one-on-one but may occasionally involve support for pairs or in-class support. The role includes preparing and delivering sessions and administrative tasks related to learning support.

The LSA will also run small support groups during certain times, including form time and lunchtime.

Skills And Qualifications

Essential (entry level):

  • GCSE qualifications at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a confident and positive manner.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence to support children up to and beyond Key Stage 2.
  • Empathy for pupils, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Collaborative and supportive approach with colleagues, advisors, and parents.
  • Ability to manage commitments and deadlines.
  • ICT competence.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development.
  • A positive attitude and adaptability to work effectively in a prep school environment.

Desirable (higher entry level or progression):

  • A relevant higher-level qualification or vocational training applicable to supporting pupil development, such as A level (or higher).
  • Ability to contribute to the school's clubs and sports programs.
