As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. You will bring energy, creativity, and enthusiasm into the classroom, supporting students with additional needs to thrive academically and emotionally. You’ll be a calm and dependable presence, capable of inspiring and gently challenging students to reach their full potential. Your role will involve managing priorities effectively under pressure, promoting equality and safeguarding at all times, and demonstrating patience, resilience, and a sense of humour. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as is a nurturing approach that supports students’ wellbeing. You’ll work closely with teaching staff and wider professionals, building strong, positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues to ensure every child receives the support they need to succeed.

About the Academy:

The school supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with complex learning needs, providing a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. They have a dedicated team of highly trained staff who work closely with each child’s strengths, setting high but achievable expectations. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and benefit from a collaborative approach involving therapists, medical professionals, and specialist teachers. A range of on-site therapies, including speech and language, occupational, and physiotherapy, is available to support pupils' individual needs. Personal development—spiritual, moral, social, and cultural—is central to their ethos, helping students gain independence and prepare for adult life. A full-time nurse is also based on site to support pupil well-being.

What you’ll need to be a Learning Support Assistant:

  • Strong communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, or other additional needs (or a strong desire to learn).
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/Level 4 or above
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable but not essential – full training and support will be provided!

What We Offer:

  • Opportunities to develop expertise in supporting complex learning needs.
  • Work closely with a multi-agency team including therapists, medical professionals, and social services.
  • Staff trained in emergency medication and First Aid.
  • A wide range of CPD opportunities, including safeguarding, e-safety, and behaviour management.
  • Specialist training available (e.g., PECS, Attention Autism, pool safety, moving & handling).
