Job description

Bolton School Girls’ Division are looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated Learning Support team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop confidence and independence, and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with the SENDCo, teaching staff and other professionals, you will provide in-class support across a variety of subjects and year groups, ensuring pupils are fully engaged in school life and able to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

The Role

The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time supporting pupils within mainstream lessons, adapting their approach to meet individual learning needs and promoting independence wherever possible. In addition, you may deliver targeted one-to-one and small group interventions, assist with SEND administration and contribute to monitoring pupil progress.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEND, including learning, communication, social, emotional and physical needs.
  • Working alongside teachers to ensure pupils can fully access the curriculum.
  • Encouraging confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Delivering targeted interventions and support programmes as directed by the SENDCo.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress and contributing to review meetings where appropriate.
  • Assisting with the preparation and adaptation of learning resources.
  • Supporting the use of assistive technology and other learning tools.
  • Promoting pupils’ wellbeing, personal development and positive behaviour.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals to support pupil success.
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is compassionate, adaptable and committed to supporting young people.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Is patient, organised and able to use initiative.
  • Has an understanding of, or interest in, supporting pupils with SEND.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

With some 2,500 pupils, Bolton School is a large, thriving, academically selective day school. It is situated a mile or so from the town centre in a stunning 32 acre campus and is within easy reach of some of the nation’s finest cities and countryside.

In Autumn 2021, significant changes were made to the leadership structure of the School Foundation, investing the newly created position of Head of Foundation with overall responsibility. Within the new structure, there are three sections: Girls’ Division, Boys’ Division and Primary Division. A Head of each Division and the Head of Foundation, together with the Clerk and Treasurer and Director of Operational Services, are the Foundation’s Senior Officers; they are directly accountable to the Governors.

Two adjoining and similar buildings, now attached by a state-of-the art Sixth Form Centre, house the Boys’ and Girls’ Senior Schools, each of which provides a traditional academic education from the age of 11 years. The Primary Division includes separate Junior Schools for boys and girls from the age of 7 and a co-educational Infant School and Nursery.

Closing date for applications: 09 November 2026 at 8.30am

Interviews will be held during week commencing 16 November 2026

Applications will be considered in order of receipt, should a suitable candidate be found, the vacancy may close earlier.
