Job summary

Ashford School is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to support pupils across key stages and assist in delivering interventions as directed by the Head of Learning Enhancement.

The role requires working with young people in a mainstream secondary environment, with emphasis on empathy, collaboration with staff, and strong ICT and organisational skills to help students access the curriculum.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above.
• Experience of working with young people with complex needs.
• Proficient ICT skills.
• Strong organisational skills.
• Sensitivity to young people and understanding the pressures on teaching staff.

Responsibilities

Learning Support Assistant

Reporting to: Head of Learning Enhancement

An understanding of children with additional learning needs is desirable. The successful candidate will be hardworking, empathetic, flexible and committed to supporting pupils across all key stages to access the curriculum and enrichment activities. The role involves supporting pupils across a broad range of subjects and, where required, preparing and delivering one-to-one interventions under the guidance of the Head of Learning Enhancement. Experience of working with young people in a mainstream secondary school is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Support learning and teaching under the direction of the Head of Learning Enhancement.

Work collaboratively with teachers, as appropriate, to provide the best possible learning support.

Support individual pupils, both in and out of the classroom, as directed by the Head of Learning Enhancement.

Attend department meetings.

Communicate with subject teachers as required, under the guidance of the Head of Learning Enhancement.

Be aware of school policies and support the aims and objectives of the school.

Safeguard the welfare and safety of children at all times.

Essential Requirements:

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above.

Experience of working with young people with complex needs.

Strong team player. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Proficient ICT skills.

Strong organisational skills.

Sensitivity to young people and an understanding of the pressures on teaching staff.

Desirable Requirements:

Teaching Assistant Qualification (Level 2 or Level 3).
