Working with Children with Past Trauma and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) - Special Educational Needs and Mental Health (SEMH) Focus:

At our organization, we recognize the importance of addressing the unique needs of students who have experienced past trauma and ACEs. The successful Learning Mentor will play a crucial role in providing specialized support to children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Trauma-Informed Approach: Implementing a trauma-informed approach to support students who have experienced adverse childhood experiences, creating a safe and supportive environment that responds to the impact of trauma on learning and behavior.
  • Individualized Support Plans: Collaborating with educational professionals to develop and implement support plans tailored to the social, emotional, and mental health needs of students, including working with external agencies.
  • Behavioral Intervention: Applying effective behavioral strategies to address challenging behaviors related to trauma or emotional difficulties, using positive management techniques to foster an inclusive environment.
  • Building Trusting Relationships: Establishing trusting relationships with students, recognizing that such connections can be transformative for those who have experienced trauma.
  • Training and Development: Participating in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in supporting students with SEMH needs.
