Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Mentor & Cover Teacher to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Northamptonshire on a permanent basis from September 2025.

As a Learning Mentor & Cover Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. You will provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to pupils who need additional academic or behavioural support, while also stepping in to deliver high-quality cover lessons across a range of subjects as required.

This Learning Mentor & Cover Teacher role is ideal for someone who is passionate about student welfare and achievement, and who has the flexibility and confidence to manage full classes when needed. You will work closely with the pastoral team, teaching staff, and senior leaders to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective cover lessons across KS3 and KS4 when teachers are absent
  • Provide consistent, supportive mentoring to students, addressing barriers to learning
  • Support students with academic progress, behaviour, and personal development
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting confidence, motivation, and achievement
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and well-managed school environment
  • Liaise regularly with teachers and support staff to help track pupil progress and wellbeing

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS certificate (on the Update Service)
  • Previous experience working in a UK Teaching or Learning Mentor capacity
  • Up-to-date and relevant CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage students
  • Flexible, reliable, and committed to student success
