Job summary

South Gloucestershire & Stroud College at Stroud Campus is seeking a dedicated learner support worker to provide emotional, pastoral and academic assistance to students with social-emotional needs, helping them engage in education and achieve qualifications.

You will collaborate with teaching staff to develop personalised pathway plans, use de-escalation techniques to support anxious learners, and enable access to campus facilities and the local community.

Qualifications

  • Math & English GCSE at grade 4 or above or equivalent (L2 standard).
  • If not present, commitment to working towards these qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Foster an individualised approach to supporting learners to engage with learning and gain qualifications.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage anxiety and behaviour.
  • Support learners at unstructured times to access SGS Stroud Campus facilities as appropriate.
  • Support learners to develop a pathway plan including Independent Living Skills and preparing for adulthood.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support learner progress.

Actual Salary: up to £19,915.71

Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time, Term Time only

Working Hours: up to 35 hours per week, 37 weeks per year

To provide a high level of emotional, pastoral, and academic support to learners with Social Emotional, Mental Health needs, Communication, and Interaction, learning difficulties, and the neurodivergent in order to enable them to engage in education, achieve qualifications, develop skills and knowledge in preparation for adulthood, and a realistic pathway plan for their future.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Math & English qualifications at GCSE grade 4 or above or L2 standard.
