Learning Mentor Needed in Southwark – Secondary!

Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Southwark, looking to appoint a proactive and compassionate Learning Mentor to support students from September 2025, with the opportunity to trial before the summer break.

This is a full-time, term-time role that would suit someone with a background in youth work, pastoral support, teaching assistant roles, or mentoring. You’ll be working with pupils who may be struggling with behaviour, emotional wellbeing, attendance, or engagement, helping them to thrive both academically and personally.

Location: Southwark, South East London
Start Date: September 2025 (with trial days available before Summer)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, term time
Contract: Ongoing, long-term role

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to pupils needing additional academic or emotional support

Develop trusting relationships with students to help improve self-confidence, resilience, and engagement

Monitor attendance, punctuality, and academic progress, intervening where necessary

Work closely with the school’s pastoral, behaviour and SEN teams to support individual student needs

Help students with strategies to manage behaviour and build positive routines

Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing

What We’re Looking For:

Experience supporting young people in schools, youth services, alternative provisions, or pastoral roles

Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly

Confidence in managing behaviour and supporting students with a range of needs

A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to mentoring

A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
