Job Title: Learning Mentor
Location: Gateshead
Pay rate: £130 - £170 per day (Depending on experience)

Do you have the empathy, patience, and passion to help students overcome barriers to learning and unlock their full potential?
GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Mentor to join a supportive school in Gateshead and make a meaningful impact on students’ academic and personal development. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, supporting young people, and helping them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to students who may be disengaged or facing personal, social, or emotional challenges.
  • Support students with strategies to improve focus, motivation, behaviour, and attendance.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to support student progress.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
  • Help monitor student progress and contribute to personalised support plans.
  • Assist with transitions between key stages or reintegration into mainstream education where needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, college, or youth work setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or counselling (desirable but not essential)
  • A current Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
