Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 40 weeks per year

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Learning Mentor to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Learning Mentor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Pastoral Support & Mentoring – Provide guidance and early interventions for allocated learners, supporting personal, social, and academic development while addressing barriers to success.
  • Attendance & Progress Monitoring – Track and challenge attendance and punctuality, implement improvement strategies, and report on learner progress using college systems and data.
  • Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with teaching staff, support teams, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic support and effective learner engagement.
  • Student Wellbeing & Development – Manage wellbeing concerns, support UCAS and employment applications, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment through induction and ongoing mentoring.
  • College-Wide Engagement & Compliance – Participate in ID checks, invigilation, open days, and safeguarding, while promoting equality, diversity, and continuous professional development in line with TBCG values.

About you:

  • Qualifications & Professional Development – Educated to Level 3 with relevant qualifications, GCSEs in English and Maths (A*–C), and evidence of recent professional development in education or support roles.
  • Knowledge & Experience – Strong understanding of Post-16 education, safeguarding, and the Prevent agenda, with experience in learning support and promoting equality and diversity.
  • Skills & Personal Qualities – Excellent communication, organisation, and prioritisation skills, with a caring, professional approach and a commitment to continuous improvement and education values.
  • Adaptability & Teamwork – Able to work independently and collaboratively, manage sensitive data, meet deadlines under pressure, and build strong professional relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Values & Compliance – Demonstrates integrity, emotional intelligence, and alignment with TBCG’s values, policies, and safeguarding responsibilities, with flexibility to travel and adapt working hours as needed.
