Job description

Job Purpose

Responsible for increasing staffs’ digital literacy skills across a range of technology-focused platforms that support learning and teaching initiatives across the institution. Providing advice and developing various upskilling approaches that increase the use and mainstreaming of key technologies. Furthermore, supporting the ongoing delivery of fully online courses, micro-credentials and blended courses across the University in line with Learning Innovation Unit colleagues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work in partnership with key stakeholders to design and deliver staff upskilling on a range of key learning technologies, ensuring supporting structures are in place to allow for mainstream use of key technologies.

  2. To resolve day to day operational issues and queries independently through troubleshooting and advising on courses of action as appropriate in order to ensure excellent service delivery and continuity.

  3. Provide strong advice on the deployment of key platforms and tools, such as Moodle and Mahara

  4. Based on user needs, produce guidance, and participate in demonstrations and training provided to academic staff on the use of the digital technologies needed in teaching, learning and assessment.

  5. Support the development of MOOCs, Micro-Credentials and fully online degrees.

  6. Provide insights to the use of key technologies while scoping ways to streamline adoption.

  7. Design and implement processes to streamline service delivery and online activity to enable the university to develop a consistent and scalable approach to online and digital learning.

  8. Review and adapt course content post-delivery, to ensure consistency and alignment with our learning design approach and templates.

  9. Keep up to date with developments in learning technologies in Higher Education and beyond

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s). Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Strong Knowledge of the functionalities of Virtual Learning Environments [VLE] and Massive Online Open Course [MOOC] platforms.

A3 Experience of supporting staff in the use of multiple platforms that support learning and teaching.

A4 Experience working in a support role for large, complex corporate systems.

A5 Experience of working with help-desk software and prioritising support.

A6 Expertise relating to planning and undertaking staff upskilling sessions. A7 The ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously and drive these through to completion, including requirements gathering and task management.

A8 Ability to capture and share best practice. A9 Understanding of pedagogical theories relating to the use of technology-enhanced learning.

Desirable

B1 Knowledge of e-learning rapid authoring tools such as Camtasia. B2 A good understanding of capturing and editing multimedia, such as video and MP3.

B3 Knowledge of designing, building and maintaining courses at scale in recent versions of Moodle.

B4 Basic knowledge of animation and or graphic creation.

C11 Ability to apply technology to the enhancement of learning and teaching.

Experience

Essential

E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s). Or: qualifications above HND (or equivalent), and experience of personal development in a similar role. E2 Relevant experience in a digital learning development role.

E3 Experience of organising and running events such as seminars, workshops and dissemination events. E4 Experience of developing creative materials to support and enhance the use of tools designed to enhance learning.

E5 Experience of providing specialist advice and information relating to technology-enabled learning to a wide range of audiences with different levels of technological knowledge.

Desirable

F1 Experience in creating Massive Open Online Courses [MOOCs]. F2 Evidenced experience of project management and design at the level of programme, course and activity.

F3 Experience using web conferencing software. F4 Experience in video, audio capturing and editing.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £33,482 - £37,174 per annum.

This post is full time and fixed term up to the 31st July 2026
