Job description

Various positions available at Merton College, Kingston College, and South Thames College, Wandsworth

The role of Learning Coach is a rewarding opportunity to support and mentor learners with social, emotional, and mental health needs, disabilities, learning difficulties, medical conditions, or ESOL, English, and Maths support needs. The goal is to enable learners to successfully complete their qualifications, courses, and, where appropriate, education, health and care plan (EHCP) outcomes.

This position is ideal for individuals looking to start a career in education, especially recent graduates aspiring to become teachers.

Experience is not essential. We seek candidates who can demonstrate initiative, organizational and prioritization skills, and effective communication at all levels. Good administration and computer skills are required to maintain high-quality records of learner progress, set appropriate SMART targets based on EHCP outcomes, support plans, and coursework.

Willingness to achieve a GCSE/Level 2 or equivalent with grades A*-C in English and Mathematics is desired if not already held.

Hours will be discussed at the interview stage.

The closing date for applications is 3rd July 2025.

We offer a generous benefits package, including an excellent pension scheme (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities, professional development opportunities, and a salary sacrifice cycle-to-work scheme. The benefits are pro-rated for part-time staff.

Successful candidates will undergo enhanced DBS checks, provide satisfactory references, complete online searches, and prove eligibility to work in the UK.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and encourage applications regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, marriage, or civil partnership, in accordance with the Public Sector Equality Duty of the Equality Act 2010.

The South Thames Colleges Group comprises Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College, and South Thames College, which merged on 1 August 2017. It is one of London’s largest providers of post-16 education and training, contributing significantly to local communities. Our aim is to prioritize student success in all we do.

We seek hardworking, collaborative individuals who can join our team and help challenge students to achieve and progress.
