Job summary

A global engineering group in Rugby is seeking a Lean Manufacturing Specialist to drive continuous improvement across production. You will analyse processes, map value streams, and implement Lean methodologies to optimise operations. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in Lean principles and at least 3 years of relevant experience. This initial 3-month contract is expected to extend.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean tools and methodologies.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse production processes to identify bottlenecks.
  • Facilitate teams in mapping value streams.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies.

Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a results-driven Lean Manufacturing Specialist to lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across our production operations. This role is critical in driving lead time reduction, optimizing value streams, and embedding a culture of problem solving, initiative building, and 5S workplace organization. The ideal candidate will be a proactive change agent with a strong foundation in Lean principles and a passion for operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Time Reduction: Analyse production processes to identify bottlenecks and implement strategies to reduce cycle times and improve throughput.

  • Value Stream Mapping: Facilitate cross-functional teams in mapping current and future state value streams to eliminate waste and enhance flow.

  • Problem Solving: Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., A3, 5 Whys, Root Cause Analysis) to resolve operational issues and prevent recurrence.

  • Initiative Building: Champion and coach continuous improvement initiatives, engaging employees at all levels to foster a Lean culture.

  • 5S Implementation: Lead 5S audits and training to ensure a clean, organised, and safe work environment that supports productivity and quality.

  • Training & Coaching: Deliver Lean training sessions and mentor team members to build internal capabilities and sustain improvements.

  • Performance Metrics: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Lean initiatives, including lead time, waste reduction, and productivity gains.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement role.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean tools and methodologies (Kaizen, Kanban, SMED, etc.).
  • Proven experience with value stream mapping and 5S implementation.
  • Excellent analytical, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is a plus.
