Job summary

RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd. is seeking a qualified solicitor to join our Offshore Wind team as Legal Counsel for Regulatory Law.

You will provide practical legal advice on UK regulatory and grid frameworks, support environmental and energy compliance, and work with cross-border colleagues to advance offshore wind projects. In addition to advising on permits and regulatory submissions, you will help develop AI-enabled tools for regulatory tracking and document review, and coordinate with

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, or equivalent common law qualification in a relevant jurisdiction.
• 2–5 years PQE in regulatory law, energy law, environmental law, or planning law.
• Experience with digital tools and AI-enabled solutions for regulatory workstreams.

Responsibilities

• Advise on regulatory frameworks, grid connection agreements, and environmental/energy regulations for UK offshore wind projects.
• Coordinate regulatory approvals and contribute to regulatory submissions and public consultations.
• Monitor regulatory developments and track permit conditions across jurisdictions.
• Coordinate external legal/regulatory advisors to ensure cost-effective support.

Join our international Offshore Wind team as Legal Counsel for Regulatory Law. Provide legal support on regulatory and grid matters relevant to offshore wind projects. Work closely with colleagues across the global Offshore Legal Team to deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice on the regulatory frameworks governing our UK Offshore Wind business.

About the role

• Support offshore wind development projects by advising on applicable regulatory frameworks, grid connection agreements, and compliance with environmental and energy regulations with a focus on the UK.
• Support the development and use of AI-enabled tools across regulatory law workstreams, including regulatory tracking, permit management, compliance monitoring, document review, and the preparation of legal input for regulatory submissions.
• Work closely with legal, regulatory affairs, environmental, commercial, development, and project teams to provide practical legal support on regulatory matters for offshore wind projects in an international environment.
• Coordinate regulatory approval processes and contribute to the preparation of clear, accurate, and timely legal input for regulatory submissions, public consultations, and project milestones.
• Assist in monitoring regulatory developments, tracking permit conditions and compliance obligations, and ensuring consistent handling of regulatory matters across relevant jurisdictions.
• Support the instruction and coordination of external legal and regulatory advisors, ensuring efficient, high-quality, and cost-conscious legal support on permitting and regulatory compliance matters.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of regulatory processes, templates, and ways of working, including the practical and responsible use of legal technology and AI to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality in regulatory law matters.

Job requirements and experience

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, or equivalent common law qualification in a relevant jurisdiction, with 2 to 5 years PQE.
• Relevant working experience in regulatory law, energy law, environmental law, or planning law gained at an international law firm, energy company, or regulatory body; experience in offshore wind or renewable energy projects is desirable.Experience advising on grid connection, or energy regulatory frameworks is desirable.
• Confidence and a proven track record in developing and using digital tools, including legal technology and AI-enabled tools, to support regulatory and compliance workstreams.
• Comfortable handling multiple tasks, taking on new responsibilities, and setting priorities in a deadline-intensive environment.
• Strong commercial, technical, and strategic acumen, with solid analytical skills.
• Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to identify practical legal and business solutions and escalated complex matters appropriately.
• Strong customer orientation and a high level of engagement and flexibility.
• Ability to work and communicate professionally and accurately in a time-sensitive setting.
• Enthusiasm for working in an international team and openness to occasional travel.

Advantageous, but not essential

• Ability to conduct negotiations or correspondence in an additional European language.
• Familiarity with Ofgem processes, electricity licence conditions, the OFTO regime or the CfD regime.
