Job description

Morris & Spottiswood is seeking a meticulous and proactive Lead Vetting Officer to join our team in Glasgow. This vital role will ensure that the Morris & Spottiswood Group complies with client security vetting and compliance requirements. As part of this role, you’ll be responsible for managing and overseeing all security vetting processes, ensuring that employees, contractors, and supply chains are vetted to the highest standards. Your efforts will help maintain the Group’s reputation as a trusted partner for clients and stakeholders who prioritise security.

The role will involve liaising with government agencies, ensuring compliance with national security standards, conducting thorough security checks, and training internal teams on security protocols. You’ll be supported by Security Vetting Officers as necessary to maintain smooth project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all BPSS and SC vetting processes across the group, ensuring timely and thorough assessments and renewals.
  • Act as the primary liaison with government vetting authorities.
  • Ensure that internal staff adhere to security vetting standards and provide training where needed.
  • Manage the security vetting applications for new and existing clients, including background checks and security clearances.
  • Work with employees and contractors to collate required vetting information and ensure applications are processed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for all vetting processes while ensuring that documentation is securely stored.
  • Produce detailed reports on the vetting process, highlighting risks and presenting findings to relevant business directors.
  • Regularly review and update vetting procedures to stay ahead of emerging threats or changes in regulations.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience in a Security Vetting role is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of UK national security vetting standards and compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel (intermediate level).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with a flexible and confident approach to work.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexible, hybrid working arrangements (office attendance will fluctuate based on business needs).
