Job Description

Introduction

Our client is a corporately owned 24-hour hospital in Faygate, and they are now seeking a Lead Veterinary Surgeon with a preference for orthopaedics and a surgical bias to join their expanding team. Nestled in rolling woodland with access to the South Downs National Park and Jurassic coastline, this is an ideal setting for those who want to blend career progression with quality of life. The hospital is known for its gold-standard patient care, forward-thinking culture, and the strong support of a committed clinical team.

Working Hours / Rota

This is a full-time position with a rota tailored to allow clinical focus and work-life balance. Weekend or out-of-hours duties may be involved due to the 24-hour nature of the hospital, but these are shared across a dedicated team.

Role Description

You will play a key role in delivering exceptional care to a diverse caseload. Duties include consulting, diagnostics, and surgery, with a particular opportunity for those with an orthopaedic interest. As part of a multidisciplinary hospital team, you’ll work collaboratively with other vets, nurses, and support staff to maintain and improve clinical standards. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor and lead within the team, helping shape the hospital’s future clinical direction.

Team Size

The hospital is home to a large and experienced veterinary team, including advanced practitioners, dedicated night vets, and a full complement of registered veterinary nurses and support staff. The team shares a strong commitment to professional development, client care, and collaboration.

Ideal Candidate

You will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with a minimum of 3 years’ UK experience. An interest or background in orthopaedic surgery is highly desirable. You should be confident in your clinical ability, proactive in developing yourself and others, and passionate about working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Experience in clinical leadership or mentoring would be advantageous, as would a desire to help drive best practices across the hospital team.
