Job description

About Animal Trust

We are delighted to be preparing for the launch of a brand-new veterinary hospital in Cwmbran, serving the communities of Torfaen and the surrounding areas. We look to open our doors early 2027.

Animal Trust is an independently owned, not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) providing accessible, affordable, high-quality veterinary care. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our hospital will offer continuous patient care and emergency services, supporting both our clients and the wider veterinary community.

Our commitment to affordability sets us apart. With free consultations during the day and £79 out-of-hours consultations, we remove barriers that can prevent pet owners from seeking veterinary advice. Combined with our transparent packaged pricing, this allows us to see a varied and rewarding caseload, providing excellent opportunities for our clinical teams to develop their skills and experience.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced vet with a passion for both people and pets, to join our team. A Lead Veterinary Surgeon will guide our team of vets, ensuring that high standards of clinical care are met through coaching and mentoring. You will be jointly responsible for embedding the Animal Trust Values, creating a caring and nurturing working environment.

Working closely with our Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the clinic. Your responsibilities will extend to evaluating clinic KPIs and P&L, ensuring optimal performance and the continued success of the hospital.

About You
  • Clinical Expertise: Possess a strong clinical skillset with a passion for coaching and mentoring.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both with clients and the veterinary team.
  • VetGDP Qualification: Hold or be eager to obtain a VetGDP qualification.
  • Business Acumen: While preferred, it is not essential. We welcome individuals interested in assessing business KPIs and P&L.
  • Management Experience: Have experience in performing 1-2-1 meetings and conducting performance management.
  • Confident Leadership: Be confident in leading staff meetings and clinical governance meetings.
Rota
  • 40 hours over a 4 day week
  • 2:9 Weekends
Benefits
  • 6 weeks of holiday per year
  • 52 weeks sickness benefit available
  • Private health care - after a qualifying period

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation and help shape a brand-new hospital from the very beginning.

If you're passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and want to make a real difference to pets and their owners, we'd love to hear from you.
