Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated registered nurse with significant post registration experience in Upper GI/HPB cancer or cancer services to lead the Upper GI and HPB clinical nurse specialist service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust is one of two specialist tertiary centres for oesophago-gastric cancer surgery in West Yorkshire. The post holder will participate in and oversee the provision of nursing services within UGI and HPB cancer services and will have responsibility for the management of the Upper GI/HPB Cancer Nurse Specialist team, working with professionals from Upper GI surgery, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Oncology.

As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide advanced nursing expertise/interventions to patients with Upper GI and HPB cancers, managing a defined caseload and aiming to enhance quality of life for patients and carers with suspected or diagnosed Upper GI and HPB cancers, including complex physical and emotional needs.

Job responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the UGI/HPB CNS team including direct staff management.
  • Provide advice and consultancy as Lead CNS for the Western West Yorkshire Oesophago-Gastric MDT, in line with local, regional and national guidelines and standards.
  • Lead in the development of protocols and policies and provide support for the Upper GI cancer nursing team to work with other members of the multi-disciplinary teams across the West of West Yorkshire.
  • Manage own caseload of patients delivering highly specialised clinical care within the Upper GI MDT to maintain appropriate services delivery.
  • Travel between sites (Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Luke's Hospital and Eccleshill Hospital) and externally to other organisations within West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance to attend meetings; therefore travel is essential.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
  • Post registration qualification / training in area of clinical specialty
  • Relevant post registration experience, including experience of working in UGI/HPB cancer, palliative care, oncology or UGI Surgery
  • Degree or equivalent level of education or experience
  • Master’s degree or working towards or evidence of study at this level
  • Teaching and assessing qualification e.g. ENB (998) or equivalent
  • Level 2 psychology
  • Advanced Communication Skills training

  • Independent / Supplementary Non-Medical Prescriber
  • IRMER nurse referrer training
  • Counselling qualification
