Job summary

SP Energy Networks is seeking a Lead Design Engineer at Cambuslang to develop and assess concept engineering solutions for the transmission network. You will work with planning, regulation and project teams to shape investments and deliver value-driven designs.

The role requires an Engineering degree or HND, Chartered status or progress toward it, and extensive experience in electrical infrastructure design, with BIM capability.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, or HND with significant relevant experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
• Experience in the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of transmission network equipment and its operation and maintenance.
• Experience applying CDM regulations and Health & Safety best practice within a design environment.
• Knowledge of innovative engineering technologies and sustainable engineering solutions.
• Experience using BIM within transmission or substation design projects.
• Technical expertise in substations, switchgear, transformers, overhead lines, cables, protection and control systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Minimum Criteria Engineering Degree or HND with relevant industry experience.
• Experience in electrical substation or circuit design for infrastructure projects.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Develop and assess concept engineering solutions for transmission projects.
• Ensure designs comply with legislation and policies.
• Provide technical support to project teams throughout development.
• Promote high health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Monitor industry developments and apply new technologies for safety and cost improvements.
• Review engineering documentation and support budget preparation.
• Contribute to development of engineering standards and best practices.
• Mentor and support engineers across the team.
